The National Medical Commission’s revised Competency-Based Medical Education curriculum has drawn sharp criticism from disability rights and transgender advocates due to its failure to include essential provisions from the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has intervened, urging the NMC to reassess the curriculum. International organisations have threatened to escalate the issue to the World Federation for Medical Education.
