Premilla Nadasen, Ann Whitney Olin Professor of History at Barnard College, resigned as director of the Barnard Center for Research on Women (BCRW), effective December 31, 2024. Citing campus surveillance and restrictions on academic events, Nadasen also announced the cancellation of the 50th annual Scholar and Feminist Conference, which was set to focus on academic freedom. Nadasen will remain at Barnard as a professor of history. Her resignation marks a significant moment in the ongoing conversation about academic freedom on campus.
