Maharashtra’s education budget allocation declines despite increase in total funding

Maharashtra’s budget allocation for education, sports, arts, and culture has increased by Rs 7,000 crore for 2025-26, yet its share in the total budget has fallen to 13.9%. Much of the allocation covers salaries, prompting concerns about underspending on development and rising privatisation. A continued push for the National Education Policy has also been highlighted, particularly support for girl students.
