Iowa lawmakers expand DEI restrictions, targeting universities and grants

Iowa lawmakers passed several bills further restricting DEI initiatives in higher education. The legislation revokes Iowa Tuition Grant funding for colleges with DEI programs, bans taxpayer funding for DEI in state and local government, and prohibits “identity politics” in university curricula. Supporters argue for merit-based systems, while critics see it as a setback for inclusivity.
