Douglas County recommends closing 3 elementary schools in Highlands Ranch starting in 2026

Douglas County School District has recommended closing Saddle Ranch, Heritage, and Acres Green elementary schools in Highlands Ranch starting in the 2026–27 school year. The proposal aims to consolidate under-enrolled schools, preserve staffing, and expand key programs. Students will be reassigned to nearby schools, with new bus routes added. Additionally, the district plans to move sixth grade to middle schools in certain areas and adjust boundaries to balance enrollment in the region.
