ASHE 2024: Maharashtra’s higher education trends – strong PhD enrolment, GER surge, but gender gaps persist

The Annual Status of Higher Education (ASHE) 2024, compiled by the CII Higher Education Committee and Deloitte, provides a comprehensive look at Maharashtra’s higher education sector. With data from the All-India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) and Census 2011, the report highlights GER growth, doubling PhD enrolments, and rising undergraduate enrolments. However, female GER shows inconsistencies, hostel utilisation remains under 50%, and MPhil enrolments have sharply declined, signalling challenges in achieving equitable access and quality.
